Directed by Kim Hee-jin and co-starring Song Joong-ki and Choi Sung-eun, the Korean film "My Name is Loh Kiwan" profoundly depicts the touching story of a North Korean defector who is trying to survive in a foreign country. Based on the novel of the same name by Jo Hae-jin, the movie not only reveals the struggles behind refugee status, but also shows the resilience and hope of human nature in desperate situations.

The story centers around Ro Ki Wan (Song Joong Ki), a young man who bravely escapes North Korea in search of freedom and dignity. After being tortured, he moves to Belgium, Europe, but it is difficult for him to obtain legal refugee status here. With a heavy past on one side and the barriers of reality on the other, Kiwan's situation is heartbreaking.

At a moment when his life is almost in despair, he meets Mary (Choi Sung-eun), a woman who is even more helpless than he is. Marie is a Belgian of Korean descent who has long lost her faith in life due to the blows of fate. Inner trauma connects the two, and they support and heal each other in a special way. Through the progressive emotions of the two protagonists, the film conveys how immigrants and marginalized groups develop a sense of belonging and the power of love in a foreign land.

Director Kim Hee-jin's skillful use of realistic strokes to depict the inner workings of his characters, complemented by a visual style of gray and blue tones, immerses the audience in heavy but sincere emotions. Song Joong-ki's acting also breaks through in this movie, as he portrays a young man who is trying his best to survive. The entire movie not only expresses political and survival issues, but also focuses on the deep emotions between people.
