Synopsis

Le règne animal (2023) is a French science fiction and drama fusion film from director Thomas Caye. The movie is set in a near-future world where a mysterious symptom is spreading among the population, triggering a great fear in the society. Infected people experience skeletal mutations in the early stages, with their bodies gradually growing hair and scales, gradually losing their human features, and eventually becoming completely animalized. Faced with an uncontrollable epidemic, the government can only force these infected people to be sent to shelters.

The film's central character, Fonsois, is deeply in love with his wife, who has been mutated by the infection, and is always convinced that behind that unfamiliar face is still his familiar partner. In order to remain with his wife, he keeps relocating with his adolescent son, Amy, to follow in the footsteps of where she was transferred. However, as Amy tries to fit in with his new class, he accidentally realizes that he, too, has undergone an unspeakable change.
