## Episode Description
Hundred Dollar Love is a coming-of-age story about a disheveled middle-aged woman who redeems herself. The protagonist, Ichiko (Sakura Ando), is over 30 years old but has no direction in life and lives a muddled existence. Unwilling to take responsibility for her family or plan for the future, she spends her days obsessed with video games and pours out her anger on her young nephew. Her younger sister, Nisaneko (Saori), returns to her mother's house with a broken heart after a divorce, and her relationship with Ichiko grows increasingly tense, eventually erupting into a heated conflict in which Ichiko decides to move out of the house and try to live on her own.
She gets a job as a cashier at the hundred-dollar store she frequents, a small store staffed by a variety of personalities - chatty and lewd coworkers, a depressed store manager who is in and out of moods, and an oddball grandma who is a habitual food thief - all of whom make her life even more depressing and heavy. Ichiko's life seems to be at a low ebb when she meets Kano (Hirofumi Arai), a third-rate boxer, by chance. But the relationship is far from sweet and romantic, not even love, but more of a brief proximity between two lonely souls.
On the verge of an emotional breakdown, Ichiko decides to take up boxing. This decision became a turning point in her life, and she began to try to release her inner pain and unwillingness in the ring, and win recognition and respect even once. Boxing is not just a sport, but also a means for her to find and break through herself. From being a marginalized person in her life to insisting on challenging her physical and mental limits in the boxing gym, Ichiko rebuilds her self-confidence and dignity, and also re-examines the meaning of her life.
As a movie depicting the psychological changes of the marginalized people in the city, "Love for a Hundred Dollars" shows the heaviness of life and the bleakness of struggles through its simple and unadorned style of realism. Sakura Ando's brilliant performance adds depth to the movie, and she won the Best Actress Award at the Japan Film Academy Awards for her superb performance, making her one of the most shining highlights of the movie.
