Synopsis
Shunga Teacher (春画老师 春画先生) (Shunga Teacher 2023), directed by Akihiko Shioda, is a drama film based on the culture of spring painting in Edo period Japan. The film centers on the story of Ichiro Yoshiga, a researcher of spring paintings, and his protégé, Bowko Kasuno. An ordinary café worker, she meets Yoshiga, a "spring painting teacher" who is unapologetic about his appreciation of spring paintings. Yoshiga's frank talk about the value of the art of spring paintings sparks her interest and makes her fall in love with the researcher at first sight.
Afterwards, Bowko decides to enter Yoshikawa's home and officially becomes his student, learning about the history and culture behind spring paintings.
