Synopsis
Poor Things, directed by Ogles Lanthimos, is based on the novel of the same name by Scottish author Alasdair Gray. With a unique visual style and deep human reflection, the movie blends realism, fantasy and sci-fi elements to reinterpret the classic "Frankenstein" theme. Set in the late Victorian era, Bella (Emma Stone) is brought back to life by a scientist after she accidentally dies fleeing her husband's violence. After her rebirth, she is stuck in a childlike state of mind, but is filled with curiosity and longing for the unknown. As she meets and elopes with a debauched lawyer, Bella embarks on an adventurous journey to find herself and explore her desires and freedom. In the face of social prejudice and constraints, she continues to challenge the oppression of women and pursue true equality and sexual liberation. The film is not only a visual feast of fantasy colors, but also explores the deeper issues of women's growth, the awakening of their sense of autonomy and the relationship between social power.
