Synopsis
In the British film Femme, released in 2023 and co-directed by director Sam H. Freeman and Chunping Wu, Jules (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett), a drag queen, is on a journey of revenge. Jules, a well-known drag artist in London who performs as Aphrodite Banks, suffers badly in a brutal anti-gay attack that completely collapses his life and career. A few months later, he accidentally encounters one of his attackers, Preston (George MacKay), a deep closet straight man, in a gay sauna. Jules recognizes him, but Preston does not recognize him out of drag. Jules decides to embark on a dangerous seduction operation, searching for "how to expose the closet" and then approaching Preston in his male guise, gradually infiltrating his life.
As the relationship deepens, Jules discovers Preston's vulnerabilities and contradictions, creating a complex emotional entanglement between the two, and risking the exposure of her revenge plan. The film explores the trauma, identity and power dynamics of the LGBTQ+ community through a psychological thriller approach, blending tense atmosphere with emotional depth.
